Alpine TEC102 Fountain With Bell Shaped Fountain & Light Review

(More customer reviews)We ordered this fountain a week ago. For starters, the bulb went dead right out of the box. It wasn't a big issue; we replaced the bulb for under $5.00. The first bad thing about the fountain is overall design. The pump comes with suction cups on the bottom which are apparently supposed to anchor the pump to the bottom of the basin. Unfortunately, the hose that runs from the pump to the fountainhead is only about half the length it needs to be to reach the bottom. Second, the light in the fountain, which was the main selling point, does nothing to light the water as it bells out of the fountain. It only lights the birdpath portion. The water from the fountainhead is completely dark. With all the design flaws, it dows work well and gives an accent point to the yard, and the bubbling water is very soothing. It just doesn't show up at night.
Update:
Sunday, May 30 the bulb went dead again. It should have lasted two months. We are not replacing it because as I have said before the light does not allow the top of the fountain to be seen at night. Also, the pictures I've seen, including the one posted here, must be an artist's rendering. The instructions say to keep the pump pressure low. On that setting, the outpouring of water looks nothing like the bell shape in the picture. It's barely even a trickle. Also I do agree with the other reviewer who says the water blows out at the slightest breeze. It certainly does. Finally, it's billed as a fountain/birdbath, but none of the birds around here got that memo. I haven't seen a single bird anywhere near it. This product is NOT recommended.

(More customer reviews)You will be very disappointed as I was when the beat up carton and totally defective fountain arrived at my home a number of weeks ago. In addition, the manufacturer refused to issue me a refund and told me I had to take digital images and email the images to them. Ridiculous! I couldn't resend because of the condition of the carton, and I wasn't about to spend a dime on boxes, shipping fees, etc. In my frustration and disappointment, I put the broken pieces (many) back in the box and set it on the curb for trash pick-up.
I will NEVER do business again with this company. I'm shocked Amazon would allow such a shoddy merchant to sell their defective merchandise through them.

Bond Y98090 Deluxe Palestrina 30 inch Stone Design Fountain Review

(More customer reviews)This fountain pretty much looks just like it does in the picture. Keep in mind it is not real concrete or metal and is very lightweight. My only complaints are (1) the interior pump hose is bright, clear plastic with a hint of translucent blue; looks very fake so I painted it brown. (2) The little black pump stands out in the bottom of the fountian, so I put decorative black stone in the bottom (that also weighs it down more). If you do those things, then it becomes a five-star product.

Kenroy Home Portland Sound Floor Fountain Review

(More customer reviews)Love the design BUT unfortunately, it has major manufacturing flaws.
The plastic clip that holds the lights out of the water broke during assembly -- I tried taping it and ran the fountain but then got worried that the tape would fail & the lights would fall into the water, creating an electrical hazard. This small plastic part probably costs the mfr. less than 50 cents -- or as the unit is made in China, probably more like 5 cents!
Amazon couldn't send a replacement part so sent a whole new fountain - no doubt an expensive round trip for the parts not needed! After I dug in the box for the right part, and made the swap, the same clip on the new fountain broke. The plastic is too brittle to "give" to accept the light. Very frustrating. I wound up gluing it but that glue is not going to hold for long in that wet environment.
Other problems: Lights stay on all the time - there's no switch. Within a couple of weeks, the paint in the bowl developed bubbles all over it so instead of the smooth look shown in the photo, it has a bumpy look. Not attractive.
Consider this a temporary fountain -- it is not built to last for even one season.

(More customer reviews)The fountain is great. Actually a nice corner piece for the yard. The fountain gets 5 stars. Very nice for the price.
The service gets one star. The unit shipped a week later than originally quoted. Our delivery "window" was exceeded by four days. We bought the fountain because we wanted it for a party, and it should have arrived, as promised, by that date. Not even close.
However, if you like the fountain, by all means get it! My wife and I love it. Just don't believe the delivery dates.
UPDATE: It's now the end of 2008 and I can give a better assessment
of the fountain. Still happy with the fountain, but the liner coating on the inside peels off. So you have the option of recoating. Still, a nice fountain.

(More customer reviews)This is actually extremely small (and rather lightweight), it looks much bigger in the picture. Also, Amazon does not ship it in a separate box, it ships in the manufacturer's own box which is a little annoying because UPS is not shy about banging things around. And for reasons that are unknown to me, Amazon has stopped sending out paper receipts on most of their items. This did not come with a receipt and it was not the first order that I have received recently that came without one so this seems to be a new trend for them. Anyway it works fine, just add the water, make sure it is in a super sunny place and once it gets enough solar energy it will start to work. On dark or rainy days it will not work. This time of year these items go quickly so I was really glad to get it at this price from Amazon. And even if it does say 2-4 weeks until delivery don't worry, it almost always comes back in stock within a few days. I keep this outside in the backyard by my pool and it looks very nice. The ceramic does not appear to be of very high-quality, but at this price what can you expect. Now if I can just find that solar powered self-cleaning Jetsons kitchen that everyone's talking about.

Encore Water Bell Fountain by Woodstock Chimes Review

(More customer reviews)I had this fountain for approximately 4 years, and it worked well that entire time. The motor never burnt out, and it never had any major operational problems. A few things to know:
1. The bells rust. They will not be that nice brass color for long.
2. The plastic bowl is even more plastic in person. It's a soft plastic, seeming cheap if you touch it or get too close. It will deform as you pick it up.
3. The bells are loud. Personally, I had to muffle the bell sounds with cork.
4. There will probably only be one or two of the internal bells that will actually get struck. By the nature of water flows, expect to hear the same bell over and over.
5. The fountain needs to be cleaned regularly. While this might seem self-evident, gunk builds up quickly.
6. Floating bells flip, get stuck, and otherwise need to be watched after every now and then.
Overall, while I was slightly underwhelmed with certain details of implementation, I didn't regret my purchase either. It worked without complaint 24/7, for many years. It did a better job of hydrating the air than some other fountains or hydrators. But it is big and bulky, and isn't quite as nice as you would think.
