(More customer reviews)This is a nice looking fountain from an aesthetic standpoint. Although it is plastic, it looks much better than most plastic fountains. The water falls from a high that is significant to make a nice sound and you can adjust the waterflow on both the pump and back of the unit.
Initially, I set this up without the splash card to drip one drop at a time. When I came back a few hours later, my furniture was wet. Then, I discovered the splash guard, which I believe it not explained in the instructions. However, I figured that's what it had to be and this seemed to correct this problem.
I don't know if I have a bad pump, but if I turn off my unit, when I turn it back on the water doesn't flow. I have taken it apart several times and reconnected everything. This doesn't seem to help despite the too flow adjustments be on the maximum settings.
I also read in the instructions that the pump was suppossed to last about 3 months. This surprised me because even an inexpensive aquarium pump can run for years without burning out. Hopefully, mine will last longer, but for the cost I think a better pump should be provided.
In general, I love Alpine fountains and I own several. They are a step up from Homedics and some other more inexpensive brands. The other Alpine fountains I've been very happy with, but this one has some major issues (the one above) and some minor ones (below).
The minor issues with this fountain has been that it is tall and not perfectly stable. It doesn't fall over, but it definitely leans and if it's bumped it probably would fall. Also, when you need to get at the motor, the suction cups come off the casing and so does the small panel on the side. If I didn't have to play with the pump as often, this would only be a minor nuisance.
Perhaps I got a fountain that had a bad pump or just one that has design flaws. If you like the fountain, I think you can get a new pump fairly easily from Alpine, they seem to be good about cusotomer service. I will append this review if I give their customer service a call about some of these issues.
