Miller Poultry Fountain Waterer White Red 3 Gallon - PPF-3 Review

I purchased this waterer at the local feed store to avoid having to wait...I returned it promptly. I read the directions about not over tightening. I wanted this one after my metal waterer no longer retained vaccume after a freeze. It is nice and sturdy, however, the water just kept leaking out over the rim. So slowly I tightened it until the leaking stopped. Then I could not get the top off! I had to wait for help and even my husband had a hard time getting it off and he said I over tightened it. So HE did it himself and the same thing happened! So I returned it for a store credit and we were able to fix the metal waterer. I so wish that this would have worked as a top fill is very nice, the other waterers that have to be turned over seem impossible to carry and then flip over. For now we are sticking to the metal waterer...

Farm Innovators "All-Seasons" Heated Plastic Poultry Fountain - 3 Gal. Model HPF-100, 100-Watt Review

Farm Innovators All-Seasons Heated Plastic Poultry Fountain - 3 Gal. Model HPF-100, 100-Watt

Considering that this is a product one needs when the temperature drops below freezing, it's hard to understand why it would have been designed to fill upside down, from a small stoppered hole in the bottom, requiring the user to flip it over before plugging it into an electrical cord. This requires dexterity, often lacking when fingers are frozen, and hesitation or a slip of the hands results in the unit losing most of its liquid contents while it's being turned, forcing the poor user to start all over again and refill the thing.
Also, when it's cold outside, the plug that the unit's prongs fit into sometimes gets wet and then freezes, rendering it very difficult to insert the prongs into the plug. Again, this is not something anyone wants to play around with at 4 degrees with a windchill making it feel in the minus range. Compounding these frustrations is the relatively small capacity of the fount - three gallons - making it necessary to go through all this torture once or twice a day. After getting soaked repeatedly and freezing my fingers, I have just ordered a heated base which I will use with my galvanized 5-gallon waterer which conveniently fills from the top and doesn't require acrobatics to set up.

K&H 96-Ounce Thermal-Bowl Outdoor Pet Feeder, Blue Review

KandH 96-Ounce Thermal-Bowl Outdoor Pet Feeder, Blue

I purchased this bowl for a feral cat colony (housed in a garage transformed into a strawbale "barn" for the kitties) and needed something that was sturdy enough to not be tipped over by a few of the cats who like to drink with their paws on the sides of the water bowl.
Living in Minnesota, a water bowl that would keep water from freezing is essential. In these parts the season known as "Fall" lasts approximately 12 hrs. The timeframe it goes from 78 to a daytime high of 38 the next day, with overnight lows in the 20's and 30's.
We've already had overnight lows (with windchill) in the low 20's and teens so I've had a chance to see how well the bowl would handle a dozen kitties as well as the cold temps.
Works like a charm. One day the water was frozen, I plugged in the bowl and no more frozen water the next day, and the weeks following.
If you have outdoor pets and cold overnight lows, this water bowl is what you need. Didn't seem to up my electric bill either which is nice.
Yes, I would recommend this item. Also, it took 1 week from time of ordering to arrive. I think they shipped the day after the order was processed, the only reason it took that long to arrive, was due to a weekend that fell a few days after I ordered.

Farm Innovators Heated Base For Metal Poultry Founts Model HP-125, 125-Watt Review

We have guinea hens and I was tired of carting their metal water can into the house to defrost it twice a day during the winter. I looked into the one piece water fount/heaters, but thanks to an Amazon.com review, I rejected them. The reviewers said they were complicated to refill. I went with this heater that you set the fount on top of. I was worried at first about the label which warned the top got hot. Would it burn the guineas or ignite the straw? Actually the top is barely warm, just enough to keep the water fount from freezing. The cord is a little short, but I use a strong extension cord. Otherwise, worked great.
